Like all of us, I’m sure Mr. LeBaron would much
rather be splashing around in the Hollywood pool
than jumping into the shark-infested waters of
politics. Yet that is exactly what Mr. LeBaron
has done by launching his Honor In Office website
and campaign to reform the way California legislators
do the People’s business, and regardless of political
affiliation...

Today, elected representatives in Congress and
our state legislatures routinely vote on and pass
massive draconian bills that no lawmaker has read
or fully understands. If you saw the “musical
votes” video I’ve linked at my website, sometimes
they don’t vote at all. Who among us would trust
or hire lawyers who routinely sign off on massive
legally binding contracts without even having
read them first? ...

Almost all of our members of Congress were state
lawmakers first. It is at the state level where
they learn most of their bad habits, which they
then carry with them when they become members
of Congress. What we are doing at the state level
is teaching them some good habits, which will
hopefully carry through at the Congressional level.
But by passing this law at the state level, we
make it possible ...

Through a fast-growing grassroots movement, called

weeding out dishonest politicians and special

The other day I got an e-mail from my friend Jerrol
LeBaron in California. He told me he is trying
to get a movement going in that state that would
require integrity of its legislators. It seems
he's deeply concerned that good laws don't have
a chance of passing because none of California's
legislators reads them. They're guilty, he says,
of something he calls "political malpractice."
Sound familiar? They're too busy, he continues,
trading votes, earmarking funds to benefit campaign
contributors, backdoor politics and not reading
bills to know what they mean or what the ramifications
of their passing are. He claims these offenses
are at best malpractice and at worst illegal.
Nationally, we know these practices as pork barreling,
hog-trading and cajoling. First things first....

It has come to my attention from talking to many
of my supporters that they have had it with our
California government. Enough is enough about
what our elected officials are doing while in
office. One of the biggest concerns was that not
enough time was being spent reading the bills
that are being presented before the legislature.
The cause and effect of problems arising in state
government is from slackers ....

As this year's Memorial Day observances drew to
a close, I tried to recall other groups or individuals
that have earned similar respect and honor, albeit
perhaps without necessarily being designated a
federal holiday. Police officers, firemen and
teachers quickly came to mind. Notable civil rights
and religious leaders as well.
There are others, I am sure.
But, conspicuously absent from my list, anyway,
seemed to be America's elected leaders....
